Safari 4.0.5 with Safari 5 installed
I found a need to run Safari 4.0.5 alongside a new Safari 5 install on my Snow Leopard machine. I figured I’d share with everyone in case anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation.
I used a modified script from Michel Fortin’s Multi-Safari project (which unfortunately stops at version 3), along with the older integrated frameworks and app (which I extracted from Apple’s 4.0.5 update with pacifist).
You can grab this re-packaged Safari 4.0.5 below:
Download Multi Safari 4.0.5 for Snow Leopard

MD5 Hash: c31f8d30491ba4dcbe9d4a0e11c9881c
Just unzip it and drag it to wherever you want; it coexists with Safari 5 just fine! If anyone needs this for Leopard, let me know and I’ll throw it together for you.
UPDATE: Multi-Safari has been updated with versions for both Leopard and Snow Leopard. Head on over to Michel’s site and grab them here (Note that the latest Leopard version there is 4.0.3)!
UPDATE 2: Many people requested a Leopard version of (Multi) Safari 4.0.5. I don’t currently have a machine running leopard, so I’m not able to test it, but report back here and let me know if it works in the comments! Grab it below:

Adam,
Please drop me a note. Do you know whether you can re-packaged Safari 4.0.5 will run under Tiger 10.4.11? My problem is listed in Macintouch with your description of 4.0.5 for Snow Leopard. As my comments explain, I upgraded from .0.5 to .1 (on my G4 933 desktop – Quicksilver) and 4.1 wouldn’t run (crashes, cannot create a new window, cannot be reset). I would also like to know whether there is some way I can dis-install 4.1 (app cleaner balks, called it a protected app) Many thanks
Hello Adam, I saw your posted response to my problem on Macintouch. And yes, I would like to be able to run Safari 4.05 under Leopard 10.5.8 with Safari 5. Do you have that? I did download the Snow Leopard version, too, as I do run that.
Thanks for the help. I’ll look forward to getting the Safari 4.05 for Leopard if you have it.
Thanks again.
@ craig: The easiest way to “uninstall” is to use pacifist to install the version you want over the newer version you installed.
To do this, download pacifist from here: http://www.charlessoft.com/
Drag the installer for the version you want to install to pacifist, and click install once it opens it. When prompted, make sure use administrator privileges is checked, and enter your admin password. When asked if it’s ok to overwrite existing files, say yes.
@Will, Michel has updated his multi-safari packages here: http://michelf.com/projects/multi-safari/
You can grab the 4.0.3 Leopard version here: http://mirror.jquery.com/multi-safari/multi-safari-4.0.3-leopard.zip
If you’d like a version of 4.0.5 for Leopard instead of 4.0.3, let me know and I’ll make it for you.
Yes, please! REQ for version 4.05 for Leopard. Thanks in advance.
@ Scott and Will, check the new update for Leopard 4.0.5 Multi Safari versions. Let me know if they work!
FYI…
I just tested Safari 4.0.5 on Leopard 10.5.7 and it does not launch. It quits with an unexpected error.
