Australia bound!

I’m sitting in Boston’s Logan airport on my way to LAX, the midpoint in my journey to Sydney, Australia. I’m all packed, bags checked, and through security. I still have  to check in for my Sydney flight (which apparently I can’t do until I’m in Los Angeles), but hopefully nothing will get delayed and that wont be a problem. I have a couple of tight layovers (In Memphis, TN and in LAX), so hopefully everything goes well. I’m prepared for a long day in airports and on planes, though I should have brought some snacks… In any case, I’m excited! See you soon Sydney!

*UPDATE*: Looks like my first leg is going to be delayed due to weather in New York (The plane is apparently just taking off from there now; I’m supposed to be boarding it now in Boston! Glad it’s a short flight)… Crossing my fingers I don’t miss my connection (And that my checked baggage makes it through…). I’ll keep you updated!

*UPDATE 2*: Since I had the tightest connection from the Memphis flight, they switched me to a flight into Cincinnati, connecting to LAX. It makes my already short connection for the Sydney flight even shorter, but hopefully I’ll still make it. As an added bonus, I got bumped up to first class for this leg of the flight.. I just wish that was all the way through to Australia ;-)

*UPDATE 3*: Heh… Flight crew for Cincinnati flight is stuck in New York; none of the flight attendants from boston wanted to work overtime :( Trying again through Salt Lake City, but this one is going to make my chances of making my Sydney flight neigh impossible (unless the SLC –> LAX flight gets in early; crossing my fingers…). Also means the chances of my luggage following me are very slim too. Ah well, we’ll all make it eventually. Also means I got bumped from first class to the last row of the plane.. I’m going to see if I can move up some in SLC.

*UPDATE 4*: Looks like I’ll be sleeping in the airport tonight; I’m in Salt Lake City. The flight from Boston was full. The flight to LAX will be full too. I was going to disembark and try to get a better seat, but the huge line waiting made me decide to turn around. It’s 9:27PM here, for a 9:30 departure that’s definitely going to be late. Ah well, next time I’m flying direct and leaving plenty of layover time! Live and learn…

*UPDATE 5*: Next time I really need to learn some patience… Anyways, I got into LAX about 15minutes after my flight to Sydney left. Got in the Customer Service line to try and rebook. I tried calling their customer service too. A recorded message said due to heavy call volume they couldn’t take my call… and hung up on me. W.T.F??!! After about 20 minutes waiting in a line that didn’t move, at all, I figured I’d try my luck outside security.  After all, what airport is busy at midnight? Well… apparently LAX is busy at midnight. There were huuuuuuuge lines to check in. And when I finally found customer service the line was out the door. Ah well, I’ve almost made it up to the point where the real queue starts… yay! Sheesh, maybe if Delta tried a bit harder on their initial efforts all these people wouldn’t need customer service? Anyways, I missed the last flight out tonight, so the earliest I’ll be out of here is tomorrow sometime… I’ll let you know how it goes. At least I made it to the West Coast!

*UPDATE 6*: Yay! 2:07AM PST (Uhh… 5:07AM EST/Boston time…) and I’m finally settled in for the night! After over two hours in line for customer service, it was finally my turn. At least the woman was very kind and helpful and did everything she could to get me sorted. The Sydney flight for tomorrow is 32 seats overbooked, and because I booked my reservation in two parts they can’t put me on a codeshare flight with another airline. Ah well, I got the last seat out on the 15th, which puts me into Sydney two days late on the 17th. I guess I’ll miss a bit of orientation! They set me up at the Hilton LAX for a few nights, and gave me some (mostly useless) meal vouchers… At least I get to explore LA for a bit! With all this news of an iPhone 4 unlock I might try and pick one up here tomorrow; we’ll see how that goes! Off to Carls Jr. down the street to walk through the drive through and get some much needed food, then off to bed.. it’s been a loooong day!

*UPDATE 7*: Turns out Carls Jr doesn’t accept “walk throughs.” I tried to bribe a kid to let me borrow his mustang to no avail.. something about “I can’t just give you my keys bro, this is LA!”. In any case, I ran into some Australians on the sidewalk that guided me to a McDonalds with an open lobby not too far away. Nothing like 3AM (err.. 6AM…) Chicken McNuggets, Fries, and a soda! Now that my hunger is quenched it is time for a shower, then bed. Since this post (more of a live-blog…) is getting rather long, I’ll start a fresh one for tomorrow’s events.
